Teen nabbed after believed to be part of motorcycle theft group, says police

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a teenager after he was believed to have been part of a group of motorcycle thieves.

The suspect, a 14-year-old was among the three men caught by Ampang Jaya police on Thursday (March 7) after a motorcycle had been reported missing along Jalan Pandan Jaya previously.

Ampang Jaya deputy OCPD Supt Nazruel Ekram Abu Saare, in a statement on Saturday (March 9), said that the three suspects caught ranged from 14 to 59 years old.

"Urine tests showed all suspects tested negative for drugs. Investigations also showed that one of the three suspects had two priors on his criminal record.

"Further investigations showed that the group would target motorcycles parked at the side of shops. All suspects are remanded until Sunday (March 10)," he said.

On a separate matter, Supt Nazruel said that a factory worker had been caught after he was seen stealing frozen goods from his workplace.

The complainant, a factory manager, lodged a police report on Wednesday (March 6) after CCTV cameras caught the suspect in the act.

Supt Nazruel said that the 37-year-old suspect, a van driver, was caught on Thursday (March 7) along Jalan Hulu Kelang.

Around 11 boxes of frozen goods were recovered after the arrest.

"Investigations showed that the suspect had stolen the goods to be resold as he needed money to pay back debts," he said, adding that the suspect had two prior criminal records.

The suspect has been remanded until Monday (March 11).
