Selangor's Sultan and Tengku Permaisuri express condolences to Taib's family


PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin have expressed their condolences to the family of former Sarawak governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud.

High Royal Highness said that Taib was a prominent figure who contributed a lot to the state of Sarawak and the country.

"Allahyarham also gave his full commitment and cooperation during the Conference of Rulers meetings throughout his tenure as the Sarawak governor," said the Selangor Ruler on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page on Wednesday (Feb 21).

Their Royal Highnesses also expressed their condolences to Taib's family members and prayed that he would continue to be blessed by Allah, as well as placed among the righteous.

In a Facebook post, Taib's daughter Datuk Hanifar Taib said her father breathed his last at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur at 4.40am on Wednesday.

Sarawak has declared two days of mourning for the former state governor.

The state government said flags would be flown at half-mast on Wednesday and Thursday (Feb 22), and all official functions involving entertainment would be postponed.

A state funeral will be held for Taib at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly complex on Thursday. The public can pay their last respects from 8am to 11.30am.
