MACC nabs Batu Pahat scrap dealer over RM8,000 bribe


JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a Batu Pahat scrap business owner for allegedly giving bribes to a city council enforcement officer.

According to a source, the 57-year-old suspect was detained at Johor MACC headquarters here at around 11am on Monday (Feb 19).

It is learnt that the suspect had allegedly given RM8,000 to Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) as an inducement not to take action against his business premises.

MBIP had issued a notice to the suspect under Section 82 of the Local Government Act 1976 for running a scrap collecting business without any permit.

When contacted, state MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
