Last day of CNY Ops Selamat sees 1,455 accidents, eight deaths


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,455 accidents, including eight fatalities cases were recorded on the last day of Ops Selamat in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said 1,786 vehicles were involved in accidents.

"Compared to the previous day, accidents increased by 194 cases while fatal accidents reduced by seven cases.

"The number of those killed also saw a reduction from 17 people on Monday (Feb 12)," he said when contacted on Wednesday (Feb 14).

The number of vehicles involved in accidents saw an increase of 301 vehicles compared to the previous day, he said.

"We urge all road users especially motorcycle riders to always be vigilant on the road and careful in their driving and riding.

"Always adhere to traffic regulations and abide by instructions from police," he said.

He also reminded all road users to refrain from speeding.

Comm Mohd Azman said a total of 6,559 officers and personnel members were be deployed for the duration of Ops Selamat from Feb 8 to 13 nationwide.
