Man on drugs nabbed after trying to flee Kota Tinggi roadblock

KOTA TINGGI: A 30-year-old man was arrested after testing positive for drugs following an attempt to escape a roadblock at KM0.4 Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said the roadblock was set up as part of Ops Selamat for the Chinese New Year holiday.

“The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department team noticed a pick-up truck making a suspicious u-turn near the Ladang REM intersection at 5.30pm on Monday (Feb 12).

“The vehicle was later apprehended at KM32.7 Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kulai traffic light intersection; an inspection revealed that it was driven by a 30-year-old man who does not have a driving licence.

“He was later brought to the Kota Tinggi police headquarters, where he tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said in a statement here on Tuesday (Feb 13).

Supt Hussin added that a background check also revealed that the suspect has three prior offences involving drugs.

The suspect is currently waiting for his remand order to help with the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952 for consuming drugs.
