Three teens feared to have drowned on fishing trip near Lumut

IPOH: Three teenage friends are feared to have drowned at a river in Segari near Lumut.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department’s operations commander Muhamad Hanafi Mohamed Rasidi said a distress call was made at 3.26pm on Monday (Feb 12).

He said the three boys were fishing and swimming in Sungai Sempit in Kg Tanjung Batu Segari in Pantai Remis.

"Two of the boys are 16-years-old, while the other is 14-years-old.

"Search and rescue efforts are being conducted," he said

He said the surface search was being done currently.

"There are several difficulties that are being faced as the river is located near an oil palm plantation, where the main road is about 2km away.

"The only mode of transport is via a four-wheel-drive, while the network connectivity is poor too," he added.

The three were later identified as Chew Darumaraj,14, G. Sarath,16 and T. Eishwarpillai, 16.
