PAS claims annulment of 16 provisions in K'tan law books a 'Black Friday' for syariah

PUTRAJAYA: It is a "Black Friday" for the Shariah laws with the 16 provisions in the Kelantan syariah law now declared null and void, says PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

"It's a black Friday for the syariah court," he said.

He claimed that Friday’s (Feb 9) verdict by the Federal Court would also affect syariah laws in other states.

"When one law is nullified in one state, it means that the syariah laws in other states are also in a dangerous and critical situation," he claimed, adding that it would set a precedent unfavourable to the syariah laws.

Selamatkan Syariah secretariat chairman Mohd Zai Mustafa, who organised the gathering on Friday, said that the Muslims must stand united in this issue regardless of political affiliation.

"Starting from this moment, we will mobilise our roadshows across the nation. This is no longer a matter that should be divided by political affiliations.

"We will also send a memorandum to the Agong on behalf of the Muslims stating our worry and uneasiness.

"Members of Parliament must also be united, regardless of party lines, in creating an amendment to the Federal Constitution," he said.

Outside the Palace of Justice, the crowd began dispersing at around 10.45am after the decision was made known.

The group dispersed peacefully without any incident.
