Speed up cheating probe involving cop, says Sibu assemblyman

SIBU: Police have been urged to expedite the probe over a cheating case involving a policeman who allegedly cheated a man of RM500,000.

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said the victim who only wished to be identified as Ling lodged a report at the Sibu police station on Jan 3.

"Since this case is of public concern, I hope the police will speed up the investigation and give an answer to the people because it involves a police officer," he told a press conference on Saturday (Feb 3).

He said he would arrange a courtesy visit to the new Sarawak police chief Datuk Mancha Ata after the Chinese New Year, which will fall on Feb 10.

"I will report to him the seriousness of this case and the growing number of frauds in Sibu. At the same time, I will also raise the issue at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting in May," he added.

Chieng has urged the people to remain vigilant and not to fall victim to scams.
