Tawau cafe worker loses fingers after getting hand stuck in meat grinder

KOTA KINABALU: A cafe employee in the Tawau district lost her fingers after getting her right hand stuck in a meat grinder on Thursday (Jan 25).

The 22-year-old was putting meat into the grinder to be made into burger patties when the accident happened.

It is learnt that she was pressing the meat down when her fingers went into the cutter part of the grinder.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Kenneth Wilfred said they received a call about the incident at Taman Poh San Tawau at around 1.50pm.

“Firemen had to cut open the grinder to free the victim’s hand. She lost all her fingers,” he said in a statement.

He said the victim was then taken to the hospital for treatment while firemen ended their operations at the site at 3.20pm.
