Melaka court fines Army Private for impersonating officer, trespassing

MELAKA: A Magistrate's Court here imposed a fine of RM2,400 on an Army Private after he pleaded guilty to impersonating a Staff Sergeant and trespassing into the home of a commander at Terendak Camp in Sungai Udang here.

Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman meted out the sentence after Muhammad Fikri Shaiff, 35, admitted to the two charges on Monday (Jan 15).

Based on the charge sheet, the accused had worn a complete army uniform meant for a Staff Sergeant with the knowledge that it was likely to be believed that he belonged to that class of public servants.

The charge was framed under Section 171 of the Penal Code, which carries a three-months jail and a fine of RM400 or both upon conviction.

The accused also faced the second charge under Section 477 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass into a prohibited zone where the house of the 3rd Division's commander is located.

Section 477 carries a jail term of up to six months or a fine of up to RM3,000 or both, upon conviction.

Muhammad Fikri had committed the offence at Pos Seri Setia, Terendak Camp in the Melaka Tengah district on Nov 14, 2023, at 6.09am.

The accused, who was unrepresented, was in the process of being expelled from the service when he had committed the offences.

He was previously a former Staff Sergeant and was demoted to a Private after disciplinary action was taken against him.
