KOTA KINABALU: Newly minted Kota Kinabalu mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah’s plans for a digital parking system in the state capital have been given a thumbs up by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).
Its Api-Api division information chief, Yee Tsai Yiew, said the initiative will bring significant convenience to the city's traffic management.
"This initiative is expected to alleviate urban traffic congestion, improve parking efficiency, and provide motorists with a more convenient parking experience," she said in a statement on Monday (Jan 8).
Sabin said last week that many of the country's main cities have shifted to a digital system instead of the current scratch cards currently in use in the Sabah capital.
He said that while he has to look at the current agreement between Kota Kinabalu City Hall and the firm that implemented the present system, his plans were definitely moving towards a modern parking system.
Yiew, who is the special officer to the Chief Minister, also welcomed Sabin’s vision of having a centralised public transport system for Kota Kinabalu.
"This can be achieved by doing an in-depth study on how best to introduce a systematic bus route with a fixed schedule system," she said.
