Elderly man among four nabbed by T'ganu Religious Dept for gambling

KUALA TERENGGANU: A senior citizen was among four men arrested by the Terengganu Religious Affairs Department (JHEAT) for allegedly gambling in a karaoke centre here on Saturday (Jan 6) night.

JHEAT principal assistant commissioner of enforcement Khairul Azizi Idris said the four, aged between 45 and 60, were nabbed at 11.30pm during a syariah anti-crime operation at four karaoke premises.

He said the individuals claimed that they had just arrived at the centres for some entertainment but the raiding officers found an amount of cash and playing cards believed used for gambling.

"The four were arrested under Section 22(1) of the Terengganu Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 2001 for further investigation and the money and playing cards were seized.

"However, they were released on bail to present themselves in court," he said when contacted on Sunday (Jan 7).

Khairul Azizi said the four can be fined up to RM3,000 each or jailed for up to two years or both on conviction. - Bernama
