Man who stalked, harassed photographer to be sentenced Dec 20


SHAH ALAM: The 37-year-old man who stalked and harassed a female photographer on social media will be sentenced on Wednesday (Dec 20).

Mohamad Shafiq Rosli had been charged earlier this year under the newly crafted Section 507A of the Penal Code with stalking 31-year-old Acacia Mardiana Daud through social media platforms.

The anti-stalking law which came into effect in May provides for a maximum of three years' imprisonment, a fine or both upon conviction.

Magistrate Sasha Diana Sabtu had to postpone sentencing as the court had overlooked bringing Mohamad Shafiq to court on Tuesday (Dec 19).

On Friday (Dec 15), he pleaded guilty to repeatedly stalking Acacia Mardiana through his X account after initially claiming trial to the charge in August.

On the same day, the court allowed the prosecution’s request to refer the accused to the Forensic Psychiatric Unit of Ulu Kinta Hospital for observation.
