Cops nab six for rioting at Cheras restaurant


KUALA LUMPUR: Six people have been arrested for rioting at a restaurant at Taman Midah, Cheras on Sunday (Dec 10).

The incident was believed to have been sparked following a Facebook post by the victim.

It was learnt that the victim was eating at the restaurant at around 4am with several friends before the incident occurred.

Several men suddenly appeared and began throwing chairs at the victim and his friends.

The victim and his friends were also assaulted.

One of the victim's friends suffered multiple injuries to his face, knee and arm.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Zam Halim Jamaluddin, when contacted, confirmed the case.

"We arrested six suspects aged in their 30s and 40s. They have been remanded for two days.

"The case is being investigated as rioting under Section 148 of the Penal Code," he said adding that investigations revealed the incident was sparked over a misunderstanding regarding a social media posting.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that one of the men arrested was a political observer.

ACP Zam Halim urged anyone with information on the case to contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
