Three arrested over murder of economy rice seller in Penang


GEORGE TOWN: Police here have arrested two men and a woman to help with investigations into the death of a senior citizen who was stabbed 27 times in the parking area of ​​an apartment in Jalan Perak on Tuesday (Dec 5).

Acting Timur Laut OCPD Supt V. Saravanan said the three suspects, aged between 29 and 42, are believed to be close friends of the victim, who was an economy rice seller.

They were arrested at separate locations in Jelutong at about 7.30pm on Tuesday, he added.

"We are investigating the motive for the killing and the three individuals are on remand for three days until Friday (Dec 8) to facilitate the investigation," he said on Wednesday (Dec 6).

Supt Saravanan said the investigation was being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station. – Bernama
