Floods: 25 areas in JB hit after two-hour downpour

JOHOR BARU: A downpour that lasted about two hours Wednesday (Dec 6) afternoon caused flash floods in 25 locations around the city.

A Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) spokesman said its Skuad Kilat response team was deployed upon receiving reports about rising flood waters in various areas at around 2pm.

“As of 3.40pm, there are 25 locations within Johor Baru hit by flash floods but the water has receded in some places.

“Among the locations are Jalan Ayer Molek, Jalan Kolam Air, Jalan Yahya Awal, Jalan Mahmoodiah, Dataran Bandaraya Johor Baru, Jalan Dato Sulaiman, Jalan Serigala, Jalan Mohd Amin, Jalan Padi Makmur, Susur 3 and Susur 2 along Jalan Tun Abdul Razak and Jalan Bilal Mahmood.

“Jalan Ismail Sultan, which is in front of Istana Bukit Serene, Lurah 3, Hutan Bandar, Jalan Stulang Darat, Jalan Ibrahim Sultan, Jalan Tun Abdul Razak and Jalan Tebrau near Wisma Daiman were also affected," the spokesman added.

The council's enforcement unit also helped remove cars stuck in flooded areas along Jalan Ayer Molek.

According to the spokesman, the flash floods were caused by the downpour coinciding with the rising tide.
