Man missing after durian-filled boat capsizes in Sungai Kanowit


SIBU: A man is believed to have drowned while another was rescued when their boat, which was laden with durians, capsized in Sungai Kanowit, Kanowit.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement on Monday (Nov 27) that the missing victim has been identified as Nabau Antas, 55.

"At about 9.45am, a couple on a longboat they saw the victims passing by in their boat carrying durians," he said.

"Suddenly, they heard them shouting for help as their boat overturned due to strong waves.

The man and his wife rushed to their aid but one of the victims disappeared into the water," they said.

A search and rescue operation has since been launched to locate the victim.
