Cops start probing sex harassment claim

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has begun an investigation into a sexual harassment allegation against a government agency head, says Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

“The Special Investigation Unit is investigating the case. We will call up those involved to record their statements,” he said when contacted.

The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which focuses on “word or gesture intended to insult the modesty of a person”.

A financial consultant, in her 30s, is said to have lodged a police report last week, alleging that the suspect had been harassing her via WhatsApp.

An image of the supposed police report had gone viral on social media.

Apparently, the woman had initially approached the man for an investment opportunity in November last year before the harassment allegedly occurred.

She accused him of having asked her to go to hotels and karaoke centres a few times but she turned him down.

Since August, he became even more persistent in his advances and even sent her indecent photos, she claimed.
