Hiker dies while being transported to hospital in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: A 58-year-old woman died while being transported to the Penang hospital.

It was speculated that she could have been stung by hornets while hiking near Bukit Gambier.

A video showing a man performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a woman who was lying unconscious on the ground has since gone viral online.

Three other people were by their side during the incident, helping the unresponsive woman.

The incident was believed to have occurred earlier in the evening on Thursday (Nov 16).

George Town acting OCPD Supt V. Saravanan said a doctor at Penang Hospital lodged a police report at 6.10pm on Thursday, claiming that a woman had died while being transported in an ambulance to the hospital.

"We are still waiting for a post-mortem examination, which will be carried out tomorrow (Nov 17).

"The cause of death has yet to be determined.

"The doctor has not confirmed whether there were any external injuries on the woman.

"It could be due to hornet stings, but it has not been confirmed yet," he said.
