Water tank found infested with maggots at UMS student residence

KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has ordered its contractors to strictly monitor all facilities after a water tank at one of its on-campus student residences here was found infested with maggots.

A video of the polluted water tank which was infested with maggots had gone viral on Friday (Nov 10).

Some students had also complained of a pungent smell in the water for a few days.

UMS' corporate communications centre also issued a statement confirming the incident.

"The water source for the affected tank is a well. However, the mains water source from the Sabah Water Department which students use daily is not compromised," read the statement.

UMS said the maintenance contractor was instructed to flush and clean the affected tank.
