518 job scam victims rescued

A TOTAL of 518 victims of job scam syndicates have been rescued by the Foreign Ministry as of Nov 3, says Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin.

He said the ministry was also in the midst of identifying another 26 Malaysian victims in Laukkaing, Myanmar.

“The Foreign Ministry, through the Malaysian embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, and with cooperation from Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and China, is trying to coordinate efforts to bring back these 26 victims safely,” he told Oscar Ling (PH-Sibu).

Ling asked about steps taken by the Foreign Ministry in spreading awareness to prevent Malaysians from falling victims to job scam syndicates in Cambodia and Myanmar.

Mohamad said that once victims return to Malaysia, the police would take their witness statements as part of their investigations.
