Melaka planning to hold mega Deepavali carnival in 2024

MELAKA: There are plans to hold a mega Deepavali carnival in conjunction with Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM 2024) next year, says Khoo Poay Tiong.

The Kota Melaka MP said he would make the proposal to Federal Government stakeholders to host the event as a tourist attraction.

He said this after attending prayers at the oldest functioning Hindu temple in the country, the Sri Poyatha Vinayagar Moorthi temple on Jalan Tukang Emas here on Saturday (Nov 4).

Khoo assisted the temple to get parking bays and also presented an allocation for the temple in conjunction with the Festival of Lights.

He said Deepavali is one of the biggest festivals in this region and has the potential to attract a big crowd.

"We can witness the festivities and at the same time, promote the diversity of the country.

"Let's celebrate Deepavali as part of our festivity and come together to spur our spirit of harmony, filled with merriment," he said.
