SOME 500 inmates at Kajang Prison in Selangor received a day of cultural and faith activities along with sweets and special meals in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali festival, thanks to Malaysia Hindu Sangam (MHS), Makkal Osai reported.

The prison’s security department deputy director ACP Anbalagan Subramaniam said with the right programmes and activities, the inmates, too, can develop into disciplined and moral individuals.

The special event saw faith- related speeches, art and culture activities and even a singing competition with the winning inmates receiving prizes.

The inmates also shared their life stories and spoke about how they have changed for the better through such programmes.

Some of them even shared poems they have written in incarceration.
