Perak cops seize drugs worth RM49mil in first nine months of this year

IPOH: About RM49mil worth of drugs have been seized by the Perak police this year, says Datuk Deputy Comm Azizi Mat Aris.

The state deputy police chief said the drugs were seized between January and September.

"Erimin 5 pills, heroin and syabu were the three most drugs seized this year.

"We've also arrested a total of 10,578 people, with 1,891 people arrested for distributing drugs while 8,611 people were arrested for drug possession," he said during a narcotics cases' items disposal ceremony at the state police contingent headquarters here on Wednesday (Oct 26).

"We've also opened 5,117 investigation papers under the Dangerous Drugs Act and Poisons Act.

"About 4,908 or 95% of the investigation papers have been charged at court," he added.

DCP Azizi also said about RM2.1mil worth of drugs from 3,706 cases that have been completed in court between 2007 and 2023 would be sent for disposal.

"Among the items included 4.5kg of heroin, ganja (7.6kg), syabu (2.6kg), ketamine (76g), ecstasy pills (6g), ketum leaves (530kg) and 1,915ml of cough mixtures," he said.

"The items will be sent to a disposal site in Bukit Pelanduk in Negri Sembilan," he added.
