Charred body of driver recovered from car that burst into flames after accident

PASIR GUDANG: The charred body of a driver was found after the car caught fire opposite a petrochemical plant in Jalan Pekeliling near here.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre said they received an emergency call on the incident on Monday (Oct 23) at 11.13am.

Pasir Gudang fire station acting chief Sarhan Akmal Mohamad said 10 firemen with a Fire Rapid Tender vehicle and a 4WD Utility Vehicle from the station were deployed to the scene.

“A car driven by the victim is believed to have skidded and hit a tree before it burst into flames,’’ he said in a statement.

Sarhan said that the victim was trapped in the burning car and the firemen had to use rescue tools to remove the victim’s body.

He added that they were having problems identifying the victim’s gender as the identification documents belonging to the victim were also burnt in the incident.

“We have handed over the body to the police for further action," said Sarhan, adding the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The operation ended at 11.51am on Monday.
