Judge, TNB chief and D-G top awards for Governor’s birthday


GEORGE TOWN: A High Court judge, Tenaga Nasional Bhd president and Public Service Department director-general topped the list of 1,117 recipients of the state honours in conjunction with the 74th birthday celebration of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.

Justice Datuk Seri Tun Abd Majid Tun Hamzah, Datuk Seri Baharin Din, who is also TNB chief executive, along with Datuk Dr Zulkapli Mohamed will be awarded the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (DPPN), which carries the Datuk Seri title.

Only 35 living persons may hold the DPPN at any one time.

The award ceremony will be held over four days at Dewan Sri Pinang starting today.

Twenty-seven individuals will receive the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN), which also carries the Datuk Seri title, including former Penang deputy chief minister 1 Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman.

Three former Penang executive councillors will also be receiving the DGPN. They are Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, Phee Boon Poh and Chong Eng.

Joining them are Bertam assemblyman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, former state secretary Datuk Mohd Sayuthi Bakar, Penang Port Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Syed Mohamad Aidid Syed Murtaza, former Penang Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (Rehda) chairman Datuk Jerry Chan Fook Sing, Rose Charities Malaysia president Datuk Lawrence Cheah, former Penang Teong Guan Association president Datuk Lim Yam Koi and Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers northern branch chairman Datuk Lee Teong Li, among others.

Fifteen individuals, including former Penang Islamic Religious Council president Datuk Mohd Salleh Man and former Penang Hakka Association president Datuk Pang Yun Tiam will receive the Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN), which carries the Datuk title.

Others conferred the Datuk title under Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) are Penang Auctioneers Association chairman Muzakir Mansor and former state executive councillors Dr Norlela Ariffin, Soon Lip Chee and Yeoh Soon Hin.

Joining them in the list of 93 recipients are High Court judge Justice Anand Ponnudurai, Penang Water Watch president Dr Chan Ngai Weng, Penang Rehda chairman Khoo Teck Chong, Penang Women’s Development Corporation chief executive officer Ong Bee Leng, Penang Fire and Rescue Department director Saadon Moktar, Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa communications director Suleiman Tunku Abdul Rahman and Silicon Island Development Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Szeto Wai Loong.

Of the other 1,117 awards and medals to be conferred, 74 are the Darjah Johan Negeri (DJN), 14 are the Bintang Cemerlang Negeri (BCN), 168 Pingat Kelakuan Terpuji (PKT), 298 Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK), 399 Pingat Jasa Masyarakat (PJM) and 26 Pingat Bakti Setia (PBS).

State Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang, who announced the list, said the ceremony will begin today and continue on Monday until Wednesday.
