Budget 2024: Controls on movement of alcoholic beverages to curb smuggling

PETALING JAYA: The government will expand enforcement against smuggling to include alcoholic beverages, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said when tabling Budget 2024 in the Dewan Rakyat on Friday (Oct 13).

"The government, in an effort to curb losses to the country through smuggling, will expand enforcement to include alcoholic beverages.

"Transshipment activities of alcoholic beverages will be limited to specific ports only.

"Customs, Immigration, quarantine and security complexes in Bukit Kayu Hitam will only serve as the only exit route for the northern region.

"Import of cigarettes for the domestic market will be done by full container loads only," he said.
