Water supply to seven regions in Selangor back by Thursday (Oct 12) night

PETALING JAYA: Water supply to seven regions in Selangor is being restored and is expected to be fully recovered by midnight Thursday (Oct 12), following odour pollution at Sungai Selangor.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) said in a statement on Facebook that as of 9am on Wednesday (Oct 11), the recovery status of the water supply in the affected areas had reached 72.8%.

“Air Selangor would like to advise consumers who have and will receive their water supply to let the tap flow until it is clear before using.

“Air Selangor hopes that consumers who have received water supply will use water prudently to ensure that the recovery process in the affected areas runs smoothly,” it said.

It said water supply in the Hulu Selangor district had fully recovered, while Petaling is at 85.3%, Kuala Lumpur (18.6%), Gombak (56.2%), Shah Alam (82.9%), Klang (80.2%) and Kuala Selangor (97.9%).

Water treatment plants at the Sungai Selangor Phase 1 (SSP1), Sungai Selangor Phase 2 (SSP2), Sungai Selangor Phase 3 (SSP3) and Rantau Panjang were temporarily shut down following the detection of the odour pollution on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Air Selangor also updated that the asset upgrading, maintenance and replacement works in Sungai Langat Water Treatment Plant (Sg Langat WTP) is completed.

The works necessitated the shut down of the plant, causing areas in Petaling and Hulu Langat districts in Selangor, as well as most parts of Kuala Lumpur, to be hit by supply disruptions.

“However, there was a minor technical difficulty on site, and Air Selangor was working to solve it.

“Clean and safe treated water supply is being distributed through alternative sources in stages to consumers.

“Water supply is still expected to fully recover by noon of Oct 12.”

It added that the duration of the water supply recovery in the affected areas would vary depending on the location and distance of consumers’ premises.
