Bartender jailed for damaging cars


IPOH: A 22-year-old bartender has been sentenced to one year and six months in jail for committing mischief and damaging property.

Shaz Erfan Adril Abdul Jalil pleaded guilty to two charges under Section 427 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Siti Nora Sharif on Friday (Oct 6).

He was ordered to serve the jail term from the date of his arrest on Oct 5.

For the first charge, Shaz Erfan was said to have intentionally splashed red paint, pasted a notice and broken the window of a car parked outside a house on Jalan Menglembu Impiana 9, Taman Menglembu Impiana Adril on Aug 19, between 2am and 3am.

The incident caused the victim about RM1,000 in losses.

On the second charge, the accused was said to have committed the same offence at the same address on two different cars while also causing RM1,000 in damage on Aug 26.

Shaz Erfan's lawyer, Kathan Maruthamuthu, from the National Legal Aid Foundation, said the accused is single and stays alone.

He also said that Shaz Erfan had served time in jail before.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Nabilah Norzam prosecuted.
