It's the airlines that decide on flights to and from Ipoh, says exco member

IPOH: The decision on Ipoh’s commercial flight routes is up to individual airlines, says a Perak executive councillor.

Tourism committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said the airlines will need to conduct research before adding any new routes to Ipoh’s Sultan Azlan Shah Airport.

“Right now there are two airlines operating from the airport, namely AirAsia and FlyScoot.

“The Ipoh-Langkawi route, previously (under) AirAsia, is currently on hold.

"I was informed that the route has not been cancelled but we have yet to know when the company will resume the route," he told Steven Tiw Tee Siang (PH-Tronoh) during the question-and-answer session at the Perak assembly sitting here on Monday (Sept 25).

On Sept 17, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the state was negotiating with airlines and the Transport Ministry for more flights from abroad as it prepares for Visit Perak Year 2024.

Among the routes available from the airport are Ipoh-Senai and Ipoh-Singapore.
