Police to record Howard Lee's statement over Quran interpretation


IPOH: Ipoh Timur MP Howard Lee says the police have called him to give his statement over an investigation into his interpretation of a Quranic verse seen in a video which went viral.

"The police have contacted me and I will give my statement on Tuesday (Sept 26) afternoon," he told The Star without elaborating further on Sunday (Sept 24)

Several media outlets reported that Perak police have handed over the investigation to Federal police regarding Lee's now-deleted video.

Perak police chief comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri on Friday (Sept 22) said Bukit Aman's classified crimes investigation unit from the criminal investigation dDepartment would conduct the investigation.

A police report was lodged against Lee at Jalan Tun Razak police station in Kuala Lumpur.

Comm Mohd Yusri added that a police report was also lodged in Perak by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) called Jalinan Bersatu Sahabat (Jabat) Perak on Sept 21.
