Ipoh cops hunting for knife-wielding man who robbed elderly woman

IPOH: The police are on the hunt for a suspect who was caught on security camera footage robbing an elderly woman with a knife at a bank here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said an operation has been launched to track down the suspect, who is believed to be involved in a few other cases here.

"The police are trying to track the suspect, whom we believe could also help to solve other cases.

"The case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 8).

ACP Yahaya was responding to a video of the incident that went viral on social media.

In the one-minute, three-second video, a man wearing a motorcycle helmet with a dark faceshield enters a bank and tries to rob two women in front of the automated teller machines.

ACP Yahaya said the incident happened on May 14 at 5.20pm.

He said one of the two women, in her 50s, was robbed of about RM300.

"Those with information about the case are urged to contact Ipoh district police criminal investigation department chief Deputy Supt Mohd Zulkefli Mohd Mukhtar at 012-433 6999 or the district police control centre at 05-254 2222," he added.
