Pahang Perikatan confirms contesting in Pelangai by-election

KUANTAN: Pahang Perikatan Nasional confirmed that it will contest the Pelangai by-election, according to its chairman, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah.

"Perikatan is discussing about the most suitable candidate," he told Bernama briefly here on Thursday (Aug 24).

Meanwhile, Pahang PAS deputy commissioner Andasura Rabu said they had handed in a list of candidates to the central leadership for consideration and would meet next week to discuss the by-election.

The Election Commission has set Oct 7 as the polling day for the by-election, with nominations on Sept 23 and early voting on Oct 3, after the state seat fell vacant following the death of Pelangai assemblyman Datuk Seri Johari Harun, 53, in a plane crash in Elmina, Shah Alam on Aug 17.

The electoral roll for Pelangai shows that there were 16,456 registered voters, 16,417 of them ordinary voters, 36 police personnel and three voters abroad. - Bernama
