There must be continuance in Pelangai, says Zahid

SHAH ALAM: There must be continuance in Pelangai following the sudden vacancy of the state seat, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“I have already discussed this with the Mentri Besar and we have studied the results of the last General Elections and the development in Pelangai,” he said.

“The question of who will be representing Umno and Barisan Nasional will be deliberated when the division brings forth names to the state liaison for a decision that I will make later,” added Ahmad Zahid.

He said this after officiating the closure of the Madani Ride event at the state police contingent headquarters here on Monday (Aug 21).

First-term Pelangai state assemblyman and Pahang exco member Datuk Seri Johari Harun was killed on Thursday (Aug 17) when a Beechcraft 390 aircraft crashed in Elmina Township, Shah Alam.

The crash occurred at 2.40pm, after the aircraft was cleared to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang. It had been flying from Langkawi.

It then crashed into Persiaran Elmina after losing communications with the control tower.

The crash killed all eight on board the plane and two road users.

The others killed in the crash were pilots Shahrul Kamal Roslan and Heikal Aras Abdul Azim, and passengers Kharil Azwan Jamaludin, Shaharul Amir Omar, Mohamad Naim Fawwaz Mohamed Muaidi, Muhammad Taufiq Mohd Zaki and Idris Abdol Talib @ Ramali.

The road users killed in the crash have been identified as food delivery rider Muhamad Hafiz and e-hailing driver Sharipuddin Shaari.

Meanwhile, Zahid brushed off rumours that seven Barisan MPs had resigned.

He added that all had signed “Aku Janji” agreements in front of him and that any political movement should only be done at the end of the term.

“That is just rumours. What is most important is that we wait through the end of the term. If there is a want to do political movements otherwise, we must also see that that the mandate given was to represent the party and not for their personal self."
