Pulai PKR backs Pakatan candidate for parliamentary seat

JOHOR BARU: Pulai PKR will give its full support to the Pakatan Harapan candidate that has been named to defend the parliamentary seat, says Jimmy Puah Wee Tse.

The Pulai PKR division chief said a meeting had been held on Friday (Aug 18) to discuss the by-election.

"Pulai PKR will give its full support to Pakatan’s candidate and welcome the cooperation from all parties under the unity government in the Pulai parliamentary seat.

"In that spirit, we will go all out to ensure our candidate will win the seat," he said in a statement here on Saturday (Aug 19).

Earlier, Parti Amanah Negara president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said that former Johor state assembly Speaker Suhaizan Kaiat would contest the upcoming Pulai by-election.

Suhaizan, 50, a computer science graduate, previously worked as Salahuddin Ayub's political secretary until the latter's death this year.

Among others, Suhaizan manages the Pulai service centre as the Pulai Amanah chief, and was also the Johor Amanah vice chairman.

Meanwhile, Bakri Amanah deputy chief Nazri Abdul Rahman, 56, would contest the Simpang Jeram state seat.

Nomination day for the Simpang Jeram state seat and Pulai parliamentary by-elections has been set for Aug 26.

Polling will be on Sept 9 while early voting on Sept 5.

Salahuddin, who was the elected representative for both seats, died on July 23 due to a brain haemorrhage. He was 61.

Salahuddin was Amanah deputy president and had served as the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister.
