Barisan and Pakatan assemblymen still loyal to Perak state govt, says Saarani

IPOH: State assemblymen from Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan have reaffirmed their support to the unity Perak state government, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Mentri Besar said the state assemblymen had unanimously agreed to stay loyal to the unity government.

"That is why today (Aug 17) we have a meeting with all the assemblymen under the unity government to clear any speculations among us.

"So far all of us here, be it from Pakatan or Barisan, unanimously agree to stay loyal to the unity government," he told reporters after the meeting at Hotel Impiana here.

"The movements to topple the state government are made by those who are not happy with the recent six state elections on Aug 12," he added.

Saarani had in a press conference on Wednesday (Aug 16) assured that the state government would not topple.

Saarani, who is Perak Umno chairman, also had on Tuesday (Aug 15) denied making a statement that he would not hesitate to make a "big" decision if Negri Sembilan was not led by a Mentri Besar from Barisan Nasional.

He also advised all political parties to be responsible and to stop any attempts to spark any political polemic that would not benefit the public.

"While the recent state election results are not affecting uninvolved states, such as Perak, all 33 assemblymen under the state government bloc have respected the result, a mandate that is given by voters.

"So those who tried to play any sensitive sentiments and political polemic, I would like to remind them this action may have an impact towards interested investors," he said.

Out of the 33 state assemblymen from the unity government, four Pakatan assemblymen were absent, namely Loh Sze Yee (Jalong), Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin (Sungai Rapat), Nga Kor Ming (Kepayang) and Muhammad Arafat Varisai Muhamad (Hulu Kinta).

During the recently-concluded polls in six states on Aug 12, the status quo remained with the Pakatan-Barisan pact and Perikatan Nasional defending their respective states.

Separately Saarani also extended his condolences towards the Elmina plane crash.

"We received the news during the meeting and I was told that one of the victims was Pahang assemblyman Datuk Seri Johari Harun.

"We are saddened by the incident and hope the family would be ‘redha’ with what had happened,” he added.
