No issues for Federal Govt to continue projects, channel aid to Opposition states, says Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR: There are no issues with the government continuing projects or channelling aid to Opposition states, says Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi said any projects or assistance announced under his ministry, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), will resume in Perikatan Nasional-led states.

“The ministry will resume setting up digital economic centres (PEDi) at all respective state constituencies so there is no issue.

“I believe that this was mentioned before by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim so we will review this because we want to maintain a good relationship between the federal and state governments.

“We will review this matter from time to time,” he told reporters when met after launching the Cyber Digital Services, Defence and Security Asia (CyberDSA) 2023 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here on Tuesday (Aug 15).

On Monday (Aug 14), Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the Federal Government led by Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional should not ‘punish’ Kedahans for voting Perikatan as part of their democratic right.

The six state polls on Aug 12 saw Perikatan claiming victory in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, and the coalition has also been the state government in Perlis since the 15th General Election in 2022.
