KUALA PILAH: Infrastructure woes in Orang Asli villages here will continue to be given priority, says Barisan Nasional's Johol candidate Johol Saiful Yazan Sulaiman.

Access roads inside the villages and housing were among the issues highlighted when speaking with the Orang Asli communities here.

"Road and irrigation infrastructure has to be improved. We have been planning this with the Department of Orang Asli Development (Jakoa) since my last term and I want to continue the efforts," the former Johol assemblyman said when met after a walkabout at Kampung Bari and Kampung Charik here on Tuesday (Aug 8).

He said more houses were also needed in the villages as the community there had grown larger.

"We have the land but not the allocations. I will try my best to help them with this," he said.

Education incentives will also be considered as a means to encourage Orang Asli children to further their studies.

"We need to encourage them to receive and further their education. Education programmes may also be carried out to help the community understand the importance of education," he added.

Separately, Saiful Yazan said 44 streetlights were successfully installed from Dangi to Kuala Johol and from Air Mawang to the border of Tampin.

"I received the allocations from the Works Ministry.

"It was initially approved during my term as the Johol assemblyman, but due to technical difficulties, it had to be delayed.

"This has been a long awaited project by the locals as this stretch of road has been poorly lit," he said, adding that work began Tuesday (Aug 8) would be completed in the next two weeks.

Barisan's Saiful Yazan is in a straight fight against Perikatan Nasional's Kamarudin Md Tahir for the Johol state seat.

Negri Sembilan, Penang, Selangor, Kedah, Kelantan Terrenganu will hold their state polls on Aug 12.
