Man killed, two injured after car crashes into electric pole


MERSING: A 54-year-old man was killed and two others injured after their vehicle crashed into an electric pole at Jalan Tenggaroh-Tanjung Leman here.

Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the accident occurred at 5,30pm on Sunday (Aug 6) when the vehicle was heading towards Tanjung Leman.

“The driver suddenly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an electric pole at the side of the road before falling down the slope.

“There were three people inside the car; the 69-year-old driver, a 52-year-old man in the front seat and a 54-year-old man in the back," he said in a statement on Monday (Aug 7).

He said that the older of the two survivors suffered a serious head injury while the 52-year-old man sustained a minor injury.

Supt Abdul Razak added that all victims have been brought to the Mersing Hospital for treatment.

“The police were then notified by the hospital that the 54-year-old victim had passed away while being treated at 1am on Monday,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987.
