State polls: Machang Bubok incumbent recovers after fainting at service centre

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Incumbent Machang Bubok assemblyman Lee Khai Loon fainted in his service centre on Sunday (Aug 6), but is reported to have recovered.

A photo of Lee lying face-down on the ground with his spectacles in hand and a person in a red shirt attending to him went viral on social media after it was posted on his Facebook account.

"YB Khai Loon fell unconscious, all programmes will be cancelled today. Harap maaf," read the post at 12.20pm on Sunday, with no further details given.

However, Penang PKR chairman Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik later said Lee was only experiencing fatigue and would attend a fund-raising dinner scheduled in Permatang Tinggi on Sunday night.

An assistant who responded to a call said Lee had been coughing over the past few days and arrived at the service centre in the morning before falling unconscious at about noon. The 45-year-old first won the Machang Bubok seat in 2013 and has held it for two terms. He will be in a straight fight against Perikatan Nasional's candidate Andy Tan Hum Wei for the Aug 12 polls.
