Penang BN out to stop ‘green wave’ in six seats

TASEK GELUGOR: Barisan Nasional will work hard to stop the “green wave” in the six out of 15 Malay-majority seats that the party is contesting in Penang.

Its state chairman Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir said the coalition would not be over-confident and would allow the voters to make their own judgment regarding the Malay seats.

“For Umno and Barisan, we are working hard on the ground. Our opponents can say whatever they want but we will see the outcome on Aug 12,” he said yesterday.

Meanwhile in Kepala Batas, Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the effects of the “green wave” would not be felt much in Penang.

“Here in Penang, it is not like that, because politically we are different.

“The Pakatan Harapan-Barisan government is expected to form the state government again.

“The Penang people are hoping for leaders who represent a multiracial background, including their political partners Umno.

“For us, we not only want to contest but we want to win comfortably.

“At the same time, we want to actively contribute to the unity government pact and become a good partner,” added Reezal.

Reezal, who is the Barisan candidate for the Bertam seat, said former Penang governor Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas is expected to vote here.

“So based on the normal convention of previous elections, they will all come to vote here,” added Reezal.
