Sibu man gunned down in family orchard, cops investigating


SIBU: A man was shot to death at his family's fruit orchard near here early Tuesday (Aug 1) morning.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkifli Suhaili told a press conference that the police received a call from a member of the public at about 1.23am Tuesday over a shooting incident at KM3 Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.

He added that the victim, who has been identified as Pang Heng Hua, 46, was at the orchard with two friends.

One of his friends sustained an injury on his face while the other was unhurt.

"The victim and his two friends, aged 46 and 36 years old, had gone to the orchard at about 9.30pm for supper.

"At about 11.30pm, when they were about to leave, one of the friends opened the gate.

"Suddenly, a man showed up and started shooting at them from close range," he said.

ACP Zulkifli said family members and friends rushed Pang to the hospital.

However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

"According to the two friends, there were two suspects firing at them at the scene.

"Based on our investigations, there were eight gunshot wounds to the victim's body," he said.

ACP Zulkifli also said the victim had a criminal record, with three previous offences of voluntarily causing hurt under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

When asked whether the victim was the leader of a gang called "Lo Han', he said police are stilkl investigating.

"We are still investigating the motive of the attack and the type of gun used in the shooting. We advise the public not to speculate on the case," he said

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
