King, Queen meet with widows, relatives of fallen heroes of Lahad Datu incursion

PUTRAJAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah met with the widows and relatives of six members of the Royal Malaysia Police who were killed during Op Daulat on March 2013 in Kampung Simunul, Sabah.

The meeting was held at Dataran Pahlawan Negara here on Monday (July 31) in a sombre atmosphere after a pantomime - "Op Daulat Kampung Simunul” - was performed in conjunction with the 2023 Warriors Day.

The heroes killed in the Op Daulat on March 2, 2013, were ACP Ibrahim Lebar, Sergeant Major Baharin Hamit, Sergeant Major Abd Azis Sarikon, Corporal Mohd Azrul Tukiran, Sergeant Salam Togiran and DSP Michael Padel.

They were from the Special Branch, General Operations Force of the Sabah police contingent headquarters and the Semporna district police headquarters.

After watching the pantomime, Their Majesties, who were in tears when watching the performance, got down from the main stage to meet the widows and relatives of the fallen heroes, and making the atmosphere more sombre was the song, "Kali Terakhir Ku Lihat Wajahmu" (The Last Time I Saw Your Face) sung by well-known singer Uji Rashid, being played in the background.

Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah also presented some contributions to the widows and relatives of the fallen heroes.

Also present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

On the heart-wrenching pantomime performance, it was produced by Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali and performed by 150 police personnel from Vat 69 Commando Unit, Air Operations Unit and the General Operations Unit.

On Feb 12, 2013, more than 200 Sulu terrorists, introducing themselves as the Royal Sulu Force (RSF), invaded Kampung Tanduo in stages from Simunul Island, Sibutu Island and Sipakkut Island in the southern Philippines.

The climax of the invasion was a shootout on March 1, 2013, between the security forces and the RSF in Tanduo. The conflict was declared over on April 10, 2013.

Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah also agreed to make a donation when they greeted the widows and heirs of PDRM members in the meeting which was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. - Bernama
