State polls: Harrison’s defection to Perikatan not a surprise, says Zahid

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Harrison Hassan being named as one of Perikatan Nasional's candidates for Selangor comes as no surprise to Umno, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The party president said speculation that Harrison, who was Umno's Sungai Buloh division deputy chief, contesting for Perikatan has been circulating for a month.

"The announcement was no surprise.

"As per Umno constitution, the person's (Harrison) membership with the party has been stripped," he told reporters on Thursday.

Ahmad Zahid said he was unaware if Harrison had quit Umno.

"But for obvious reasons, he is now no longer with the party," he added.

Perikatan had announced its candidates for all 56 seats in Selangor on Wednesday night.

It named Harrison as its candidate for the Jeram seat.
