State polls: Ex-Selangor Umno Youth secretary, former division No 2 to contest under PN

KLANG: A former Selangor Umno Youth secretary and a former deputy division leader will be among those contesting under the Perikatan Nasional banner in the upcoming state polls.

A Perikatan source said both men, who were now with Bersatu, would contest in constituencies in the Kuala Selangor region.

"Apart from them, Bersatu heavyweights Datuk Seri Azmin Ali will be contesting in Hulu Kelang and former Women, Family and Community Development minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun will be contesting in Batu Tiga," said the source.

He added that Bersatu’s Seri Gombak incumbent Hilman Idham would be defending his seat.

Azmin is the incumbent assemblyman for Bukit Antarabangsa.

As for PAS, said the source, the party would be contesting in 17 seats in Selangor with its state commissioner Datuk Dr Ahmad Hairi Yunus defending his Sijangkang seat.

"PAS also has a candidate who is a professor with a public university who has tendered his resignation to contest in the polls," the source added.

Also contesting are former Bangi assemblyman Mohd Shafie Ngah, who was Selangor deputy speaker during the Pakatan Rakyat era after the 2008 general election.

"Former Taman Templer assemblyman Zaidy Abdul Talib, who was an executive councillor in the late Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim's exco line-up, will also be contesting," said the source.

He added that PAS has selected three candidates below the age of 40, two of them from a religious background and the third one a mechanical engineer.

"PAS will also have two women candidates with one of them having a degree in mathematics and the other in information technology," he said.

The names of the Perikatan candidates were scheduled to be announced later Wednesday (July 26) evening in Petaling Jaya.
