Replies to ROS in 2022 were to prevent PKR from being suspended, says Saifuddin

PETALING JAYA: The show-cause letter from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to PKR in 2022 was related to members' complaints and not to nullify the party election’s results, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The PKR secretary-general said that ROS had given the party two weeks to respond, and failure to do so could result in the party being suspended.

“As the secretary-general, it was my responsibility to respond to the letter. I responded to ROS twice. Through my response, it signified my commitment to keep the party from being suspended.

"If I really wanted to annul the party polls just because I lost to (Pandan MP) Rafizi Ramli then, I would not have responded to the letter (by ROS). It is that simple.

"As such I consider everything else being said as a political statement," Saifuddin told reporters after the Immigration Day 2023 celebration in Putrajaya on Friday (July 21).

Saifuddin's response comes after former Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin claimed that he had sought help to nullify the PKR election after losing to Rafizi for the deputy president's post.

Hamzah also said the current Home Minister had even sent him a letter a week after the party election in May.

The letter, which Hamzah claimed to be from Saifuddin, was still in his possession.

In the PKR election in 2022, Saifuddin failed to defend his position as deputy president after losing to Rafizi.
