Man who set wife on fire slapped with murder charge

MANJUNG: A security guard who works at an entertainment club, who allegedly set his wife on fire last week, has been charged with murder.

S. Gabriel, 28, also faced a drug abuse charge when he was brought to the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

He was charged with killing his wife E. Komathy, 33, at a house in Ladang Waldbrook, Sitiawan, between 6.30pm and 7pm on July 10.

Gabriel nodded when the charge was read out to him before magistrate T. Kavitha, Bernama reported.

The accused, who was unrepresented, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Rishan Kumar prosecuted.

The court set Sept 18 for case mention.

In another Magistrate’s Court, Gabriel was charged with taking methamphetamine and amphetamine.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Pantai Remis police headquarters on July 12.

He pleaded guilty to the charge before magistrate Nurul Izalina Rajaai, who set Oct 25 for mention pending the submission of the Chemistry Department report.
