Amirudin: It’s risky to ‘experiment’ with S’gor

KUALA LUMPUR: As an economic powerhouse that contributes 25.5% to the national economy, it will be risky to allow Selangor to become “an experiment” in the hands of others, says caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

He cautioned that any failure by the Selangor government would have a huge impact on Malaysia’s economy.

“In my address to government officers, I stressed that we must deliver on the economic front and continue to perform so that we can help Malaysia in post-pandemic recovery efforts.

“With our success stories, Selangor deserves continuity because Malaysia needs us to expedite the recovery process.

“Any experiments by other groups or coalitions mean they will have to plan from scratch and that is risky for Selangor and Malaysia,” he said during a talk at the Concorde Club forum here yesterday.

The Concorde Club, led by Star Media Group adviser Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, is an informal group of editors and senior journalists who meet with politicians and key policymakers.

On the sedition charges brought against Kedah caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, Amirudin said it was the responsibility of government leaders to explain the matter to the people.

He said while some groups claimed that the charges were political in nature, the fact remained that the Kedah leader had insulted the Selangor Royal Institution.

“This is not political. He crossed the line by insulting and undermining the Selangor Royal Institution although he tried to spin it to make it sound political to gain sympathy votes.

“We have the responsibility of explaining the matter to the people, to make them understand that the charges are based on insulting the royal institution and that there is no political agenda behind it,” Amirudin said.
