14-year-old charged with murdering brother in Melaka


MELAKA: A Form Two student has been charged with murdering his nine-year-old brother at the Magistrate's Court in Ayer Keroh here.

The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, was read to the accused before Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman.

The accused merely nodded when the charge was read to him on Tuesday (July 18).

He was accompanied by his parents.

Based on the facts of the case, the accused had allegedly strangled his brother to death between 11.30am to 12.35pm at a house in Kampung Bukit Piatu in Melaka Tengah district on July 5.

The court also ordered for the accused to undergo a psychiatric assessment at Permai Hospital in Tampoi, Johor.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhamad Ehsan Nasarudin prosecuted, while the 14-year-old was unrepresented.

It was reported that a neighbour had received a call from the victim's mother at about noon informing her of an incident involving the boy, the eldest of four siblings, and his younger brother.

The mother had viewed CCTV footage of her house and alerted the neighbour.

The victim was found lifeless with injuries to his head, nose and neck in the hall.
