GEORGE TOWN: The wife of a former assemblyman claims that she was hit twice on the head by a man at a grocery shop along Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim, in Bayan Lepas.

It all began when Norhailee Rasid, whose husband is incumbent Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz, had seen a girl behaving suspiciously in the shop.

She approached the girl who then ran away from the shop.

Moments later, a man rushed in, behaving aggressively and hitting Norhailee twice on the head.

He also tried to punch her, with the entire incident captured on CCTV.

In the incident that occured at about 1.40pm on Thursday (July 6), Azrul Mahathir said he was not concerned about the alleged theft by the girl but he could not condoned the verbal and physical attack on his wife.

"The incident left the staff in the shop traumatised," he said.

He said the incident should not be taken lightly, and it should not happen to his wife or any other woman as it was not acceptable.

He said his wife then lodged a police report at Teluk Kumbar police station at 4.30pm.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the police are investigating the incident and the case has been classified under Section 323/506 of Penal Code for causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
